According to report Some MacBook hard drives may contain fatal defect

According report from Retrodata UK, revision 7.0.1 Seagate drives manufactured in China have defective read / write heads that can become detached and slide across the surface of the platters, making recovery impossible. Apple says it’s only received “a few reports” of the problem, but Retrodata says the issue is severe enough to warrant a recall. MacBook users will want to fire up Apple System Profiler ASAP and check under the Serial-ATA listing to see what kind of drive they have — and probably start backing things up, just to be safe.

Google Reportedly Plans To Offer Online Storage

Google (NSDQ: GOOG) is planning an online storage and backup service that would essentially offer people a Web-based hard drive for accessing and sharing information that resides in their home computers.The product would be a kind of umbrella service for the storage Google already offers with some of its Web-based applications, such as e-mail and photo sharing, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, quoting anonymous sources. No timetable was given, and there was no guarantee that future developments wouldn’t cause Google to shift tack or cancel the project.

Google has declined comment on the report.

The award winning hard disk uses the latest SATA 300 interface, so if the PC doesn’t have a SATA connector on its motherboard then the consumer has to invest in a SATA PCI card. Samsung’s SpinPoint T166-501LJ is the fastest internal 7,200rpm 3 ½ in SATA hard disk. Internal hard disks may not be as glamorous as Blu-ray or HD DVD writers, but they are far more affordable and useful.
